A LABOR OF LOVE:
I grow all these plants in the Velvetback garden with a lot of care and intention. By asking them, “Who are you? I’d love to get to know you,” I’ve started a lot of meaningful conversations. And let me tell you—if you listen, plants have the gift of gab!

I illustrated these babes in the fall of 2017. Then I spent a day on Mt. St. Helens hiking in the sunshine and writing a poem for each one, channeling each of their unique messages.
